I've just completed my very first book promotion. It was a week long process, and during that time I experienced excitement, nerves, frustration, and joy- but none of the highs and lows can quite compare to the moment I found out my grandmother was interested in reading my erotica short story. Gasp. Choke. "No, Granny, don't do it!" Okay, my initial reaction came from my less mature self- my inner teenager, the gal who still gets the heebie-jeebies at any mention of her mother's love life. Once that first wave of embarrassment passed, I realized I was glad and thankful for all of the support I've received from both family members and friends. Thank you, you guys are amazing!
I placed my short story in Kindle's Select program, and promoted it as Free for five days. With the help of family and friends, including incredibly supportive cyber buddies, we were able to get my short story enough circulation that it made it onto Amazon's Top 100 Free Erotica and stayed there for four days. At its peak (Ha! Peak/erotica- oh my, hope Granny's not reading this) it made it to #34 on Amazon.com's Kindle Top Free Erotica. Interestingly enough, it hovered on Germany's (Amazon.de) Top 10 Free English Erotica.
Overall, I was very pleased.
My very favorite part of the process has been building relationships with readers- mostly on Twitter, and to a smaller extent on Goodreads. This whole thing is about The Reader. I am very thankful to my family and friends for their love and support, but I am also so very grateful to the folks who took the time to read a fledgling author's work. You have my deepest gratitude, ladies (and perhaps a gentleman or two). Thank you. <3
